NEWS AND NOTES
Where they stand…The Rivermen currently sit in a tie for fifth place of the West Division with 67 points. Peoria is now just eight points back of fourth-place Milwaukee for the final playoff spot. The Rivermen have one game in hand on the Admirals and two in hand on both San Antonio and Houston who are also vying for that playoff berth.
Crowd Pleaser…Peoria’s crowd of 10,129 on Saturday broke a 15-year-old team attendance record. It was sold out and broke the record of 9,427 set back on March 4, 1995 with the IHL Rivermen. Peoria’s largest AHL crowd had been 8,161 (April 11, 2009). All fans in attendance received two hot dogs, a bag of chips, a coke and a Hostess Twinkie for free.
Streaking…The Rivermen are on their first three-game winning streak since they won five in a row from Dec. 9-19.
Long time coming…Cam Paddock’s two-goal game on Sunday was his first in 244 AHL games. His last two-goal effort was on Feb. 9, 2007 when he was with ECHL Phoenix.
Good start…Joe Fallon, acquired in a trade on Monday from Chicago (Rockford), was the No. 1 star in his Rivermen debut on Sunday. He made 29 saves in his third consecutive win. His last game with Rockford and first game with Peoria were both wins in Milwaukee.
Sonne stays hot…Rookie Brett Sonne scored his 10th goal of the season on Sunday. He has six of his 10 goals this season over his last 15 games. Last season, Sonne scored 48 times, and added 52 assists, while playing with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League.
Road Warriors…The Rivermen started a seven-game road trip in Milwaukee on Sunday. It is their longest trip of the season. The Rivermen will play 12 of their last 18 games away from home. They are 12-13-0-4 on the road so far this season.
Scaring the Monsters…Peoria’s victory against Lake Erie on Saturday improved their record to 5-0-0-0 all-time against the Monsters at Carver Arena.
Finish strong…After losing their first three meetings with Grand Rapids the Rivermen won the final five games against the Griffins. The Rivermen are now 11-9-1-2 against North Division opponents after starting the year 0-5-1-1 against them.
Big Ben…Since Ben Bishop’s five-game losing streak (Feb. 9-21) he is 3-1-0 with a 2.50 GAA and .916 sv%.
Career year…Adam Cracknell picked up his 17th assist of the season on Sunday and set a new career high. He had 16 last season for the Quad City Flames. He had already reached a new career high in goals (11) and points (28) this season.
