FC Indiana Confirms Addition of Japanese Star Mizuho Sakaguchi

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-INDIANAPOLIS, IN, February 20, 2009 — FC Indiana coach Shek Borkowski has confirmed that Japan WNT midfielder Mizuho Sakaguchi will join the club in March.

The loss of six players from last season’s squad to WPS draft has reduced Borkowski’s midfield options and the signing of Sakaguchi is expected to strengthen the squad. He met Sakaguchi and her representative last week in Indianapolis and made her, what is expected to be, his last signing of 2009.

“I like Sakaguchi. For me she is the Fernando Redondo of Japan WNT. She is a defensive midfielder, but not a typical one. Instead, she is a deep-lying playmaker. She brakes up opposition attacks with sharp tackling and sets in motion attacks of her own with crisp, short passing. She does not score many goals, but she can control a game like few other central midfielders She plays with her head up, always reading the movement of the players around her, always aware of where her next pass is going. And at only 21 years of age she has a great future ahead,” said Borkowski.

The midfielder has played in all six games for Japan in the Beijing Olympics helping the team to a fourth place finish.
