FC Indiana Falls at Home in 2-1 Loss to Sky Blue FC
Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 07:48PM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-INDIANAPOLIS, IN, April 22, 2009 — It was a cruel ending to a game which appeared be another home win for FC Indiana. The match will be remembered as Sky Blue scored two goals in injury time to win 2–1, after having trailed for most of the match. Leading 1-0 on a Lisa-Marie Woods 72’ goal FC Indiana looked assured defensively, when Sky Blues’ Sarah Walsh’ cross deflected off Sharolta Nonen and found its way into the net. "Our reaction to that goal was very naive," said FC Indiana coach Shek Borkowski.
"I told my players there was nothing we could do about the first goal but we were poor in conceding the second to Rosana."
Sky Blue dominated possession but failed to create any clear cut chances despite Natasha Kai’s tireless running. The FC Indiana defense remained strong and well organised, as Kai, Kasey White and Rosana found out when their close-range efforts were quickly closed down by three defenders. As FC Indiana began to look increasingly more dangerous on the counter-attack than their opponents did in possession, Laura Del Rio repeatedly tested the Sky Blue back four with a number of clever runs, some of which were flagged offside.
It was Japan international Mizuho Sakaguchi who set up Lisa Marie Woods for a goal from 12 yards out.
As the game crept into the last two minutes, Sky Blues’s Sarah Walsh, Heather O’Reilly and Natasha Kai forced Joy McKenzie into two saves, firstly through a Walsh 30 yard effort and then from another Kai header.
Walsh flighted a cross just over Nonen’s head, as she stretched to clear it, Nonen slipped and deflected the cross into FC Indiana goal.
