MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-INDIANAPOLIS, IN, May 3, 2009 — FC Indiana managed to do what no other team has; beat Chicago Red Stars and score three goals in the process. Still, head coach Shek Borkowski was critical of his midfield play after his side’s 3-2 win in Indianapolis on Saturday night.
"The result is important but the performance was not good enough," said Borkowski. “Our midfield performance over 90 minutes must improve, we were too careless in possession, defended too deep in the last 15 minutes and our fitness still isn’t where it should be.”
While Borkowski’s "never good enough" attitude may have merit, debutant forward Lisa-Marie Woods was impressive and winger Laura Del Rio looked a constant threat going forward, while Mizuho Sakaguchi and Fatima Leyva bossed the midfield.
Spanish wonder striker Laura Del Rio was ruthless yet mesmerizing in the way she finished with a clinical 40th minute first goal, and propelled FC Indiana into fifth gear, which the Lionesses maintained throughout the night, battering their WPS opponents for two more goals in the last 45. First was a composed finish by Woods after she dispossessed Dieke in the 55 minute and another Del Rio goal in the 70 to win the game.
FC INDIANA: Lynn, Nonen, Gayle, Moore, Sakaguchi (Andrews 52), Leyva, Moscato, Woods, Luik, Lyons (Wilson 60), Del Rio.
Goals: Del Rio 40, 70, Woods 55
CHICAGO RED STARS: Williams, Dieke, Spilger (Young 60), Wenino (Ostberg 46), Igwe, Lloyd, Carney, Oaks, Cristiane, Rapinoe, Masar
