Houston Astros Name Minor-League Field Staff

Marc Bombard will return for his second season as manager of the Triple A Round Rock Express; Wes Clements was named manager of Double A Corpus Christi after serving as the Class A Lancaster manager in 2009; Tom Lawless was named manager of Class A Lancaster; and Rodney Linares, previously the manager of Advanced Rookie League Greeneville, will manage the Class A Lexington club. The Round Rock Express are set to begin their second season under the guidance of manager Marc Bombard and their sixth as the Triple A Pacific Coast League affiliate of the Astros. Bombard joined the Astros organization in 2009 after serving two seasons as the manager of the Triple A Charlotte Knights of the Chicago White Sox. The 2010 season will be Bombard’s 26th overall as a minor league manager and his 1,772 wins are the most among all active minor league managers. He has worked within the Reds (1977-88, 1993-96), Brewers (1989), Pirates (1990-92), Phillies (1997-2006), White Sox (2007-08) and Astros (2009) organizations and served as first base coach at the Major League level for the Phillies from 2005-06 and as third base coach for the Reds in 1996.
Former Major League pitcher Burt Hooton returns to the Express for a sixth consecutive season as the team’s pitching coach. Hooton also served as Round Rock’s pitching coach for the first half of the 2000 season before joining Houston on June 23, where he remained as the Astros pitching coach for parts of five seasons (2000-04). Keith Bodie will join the Express staff as hitting coach after serving in the same role for the Double A Hooks in 2009 and for Class A Salem in 2008. Athletic trainer Mike Freer returns for his 21st season with the Astros organization and 14th at the Triple A level.
Wes Clements will take the helm of the Corpus Christi Hooks after serving as the manager of the Lancaster JetHawks in 2009. Clements joined the Astros organization prior to the 2009 season after serving as hitting coach for Double A Birmingham of the White Sox organization. He has worked as hitting coach for affiliates in the Astros (2009), White Sox (2007-08), Anaheim (2003) and Brewers (2001-02) organizations and was manager of Union Laguna of the Mexican League in 2004. Stan Boroski will enter his fourth season as the Hooks pitching coach after serving as pitching coach at Class A Salem for four seasons. He has worked as either a scout or coach for the Astros during the past 16-plus years. Former Astros bullpen coach Mark Bailey will join the Hooks as hitting coach. Bailey served eight seasons as the Astros
bullpen coach and 2010 will mark his 12th season as a coach in the Houston organization. Athletic trainer Jamey Snodgrass begins his 12th season in the Houston Astros organization and his sixth in Corpus Christi in 2010.
The Class A Lancaster JetHawks will be led by manager Tom Lawless. Lawless served as manager of the Lexington Legends in 2009 after spending five seasons with the Orioles’ organization, including three as the minor league roving infield/baserunning instructor. He began his coaching career in 1992. Darryl Robinson returns for his second season as hitting coach for the JetHawks. Don Alexander will return for his second season as pitching coach after four seasons as Tri-City’s pitching coach. Eric Montague will return for his 10th year overall in the Astros organization and second as athletic trainer for Lancaster. He served as athletic trainer for Salem during four previous seasons.

The Lexington Legends will be managed by Rodney Linares, former manager of the Advanced Rookie League Greeneville
Astros. Linares spent two seasons as hitting coach for Lexington after working for six seasons with the Astros Dominican
Republic operations as a scout and hitting coach. He joined the organization in 1999 after a three-year minor league playing career. Travis Driskill has been named pitching coach after two seasons as pitching coach for Greeneville.
Stubby Clapp, former hitting coach for Greeneville last season, returns to Lexington as hitting coach. Clapp also held the role in 2008 and enters his fourth season in the Astros organization. John Patton enters his seventh season in the Astros organization and his third as athletic trainer at Lexington.
