San Diego Padres Announce Minor League Coaching Staffs

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -Terry Kennedy takes over as manager at Triple-A Portland after managing at Double-A San Antonio in 2009 and serving as the Missions hitting coach in 2008.  The former All-Star catcher for the Padres previously managed the San Diego Surf Dawgs of the Golden Baseball League in 2005, earning Manager of the Year honors in the league’s inaugural season.  He also spent six seasons as a minor league manager with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2004), Chicago Cubs (1997-99), Montreal Expos (1994) and St. Louis Cardinals (1993) organizations.  Steve Webber and Orv Franchuck also make the jump from Double-A, serving as pitching coach and hitting coach, respectively.  Wade Yamasaki remains in Portland to serve as athletic trainer in his 11th season in the Padres organization and second with the Beavers.   Doug Dascenzo will manage at Double-A San Antonio after leading Single-A Fort Wayne to a 94-46 overall record and Midwest League championship in 2009.  He was selected as the league’s Co-Manager of the Year and was also named the Midwest League’s Best Manager Prospect by Baseball America.  Joining Dascenzo will be pitching coach Glenn Abbott, who enters his fifth season in the Padres organization, having spent the previous two campaigns at Portland.  Max Venable also moves from Portland to San Antonio, serving as hitting coach in his sixth season in the organization.  JoJo Tarantino remains in San Antonio as trainer in his seventh season with the Padres.   Carlos Lezcano returns for his fourth season as manager of Single-A Lake Elsinore, after leading the Storm to three consecutive playoff appearances in the California League from 2007-09.  Lezcano also managed San Diego’s Rookie level affiliate from 2003-06, and enters his 18th season as a minor league manager.  Lezcano is joined by pitching coach Dave Rajsich, who remains with the Storm for his second season.  Rajsich enters his 11th season overall in the Padres organization.  Bob Skube joins Lake Elsinore as hitting coach after holding the same position with Rookie-level Peoria for the previous two years.  Will Sinon comes back for his fourth campaign as the Storm’s athletic trainer and 13th in the Padres organization.               Jose Flores takes over as manager at Singe-A Fort Wayne after spending the previous two seasons managing at Rookie-level Peoria.  Flores also served as a hitting coach for Short-A Eugene in 2007.  Pitching coach Bronswell Patrick makes the move from Eugene to Fort Wayne after bumping up from Peoria to Eugene following the 2008 campaign.  Tom Tornincasa returns for his third season as hitting coach after holding the same position at Double-A San Antonio in 2007.  He was formerly hitting coach at Fort Wayne from 2001-04 and is in his 11th season in the Padres organization.  Nathan Stewart will serve as trainer for Fort Wayne in his fifth season with the Padres.   Short-A Eugene is managed by Greg Riddoch, who returns to the Emeralds for his fourth season.   Riddoch has been in professional baseball since 1967, including nine seasons in San Diego’s organization.  He served as manager of the Padres over parts of the 1990-92 seasons.  Riddoch is joined by Tom Bradley, who enters his first year as the Emeralds’ pitching coach after holding the same position with Fort Wayne for the previous two seasons.  Daniel Turner begins his first season as Eugene’s trainer.
